The 2024-25 Big 12 Athlete of the Year nominees will be featured in alphabetical order by school starting Monday, July 14, through Wednesday, July 23, at 11 a.m. CT and 2 p.m. CT.
Each institution nominated one male and one female athlete of any classification who competed for their institution during the 2024-25 school year. Student-athletes were required to be in good academic standing and must have participated in a league-sponsored sport.
The 16 full-membership schools that competed during the 2024-25 academic year are eligible.
The winners will be announced Thursday, July 24. Stay tuned to Big12Sports.com and the league’s social media platforms to see the rest of the candidates.
This afternoon’s featured candidates are BYU’s James Corrigan and Lexy Halladay-Lowry.
BYU Male Athlete of the Year Candidate
James Corrigan, Cross Country/Track and Field
Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.
Accomplishments
- Key member of BYU’s national championship cross country team; also won the individual national title in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
- 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Champion in both the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000 meters, breaking the Championship meet records in both events.
- Represented Team USA in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
- Pre-business major in BYU’s Marriott School of Business. Participates in the BYU Courageous Kids Invitational, supporting children with special needs in the local community.
BYU Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
Lexy Halladay-Lowry, Cross Country/Track and Field
Sr., Meridian, Idaho
- Member of BYU’s national championship cross country team; placed 14th individually at the event (19:48.4).
- Earned All-America honors in cross country for 2024 and won Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor titles in the 5,0000-meters.
- Named the 2025 USTFCCCA Mountain Region Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Finished second nationally in the 3,000-meter steeplechase earning First Team All-America honors which included running under the previous collegiate record.
- Graduated in 2025 with a degree in public health from BYU’s College of Life Sciences. Actively involved with RISE, a foundation that creates opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
