Baylor’s Oskar Brostrom Poulsen (men’s) and Arizona State’s Sara Svetac (women’s) were named the Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week for matches ending February 2.
Brostrom Poulsen finished undefeated in singles (3-0) and added a ranked doubles victory in three matches. Against No. 10 San Diego, the senior from Helsingor, Denmark came away with a 6-4, 6-1 win on the No. 2 court to secure a point for the Bears. He added two more wins against New Mexico (6-1, 1-6, 6-1) and Rice (6-4, 6-2). In doubles play, he teamed up with Marko Miladinovic to secure their first ranked doubles win of the season (6-0) over Rice’s 43
rd-ranked pair in the country.
Svetac led Arizona State to a ranked win over No. 15 Pepperdine while contributing two points. The sophomore from Split, Croatia clinched the doubles point for the Sun Devils with a 6-2 win on the No. 2 court alongside Karin Altori over Pepperdine’s 101
st-ranked duo. She followed that up with the match-clinching point on the top court against No. 13 Savannah Broadus (7-5, 6-4).
It is both athletes’ first Conference weekly award.
