ASU’s Ovrootsky and BU’s Badenhorst Collect Big 12 Tennis Weekly Award

Arizona State’s Vivian Ovrootsky (women’s) and Baylor’s Devin Badenhorst (men’s) were named as the Big 12 tennis athletes of the week.

Ovrootsky helped lead the Sun Devils to a 3-0 weekend against No. 32 Texas Tech, Tulsa, and No. 61 Denver at the Red and Blue Invite hosted by Arizona. The graduate student put the Sun Devils on the board on Friday, downing the Lady Raiders’ Mariia Hlahola in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. In the Saturday lineup, Ovrootsky paired with Sara Svetac for doubles, where they took down the Golden Hurricane, 6-1, and the Pioneers, 6-1, in a doubleheader matchup. She earned the final point against Tulsa’s Lilitha Sithenkosi Ndungane, 6-1, 6-1, before defeating Denver’s Zoe Adkins, 6-2, 6-0, to complete the Sun Devils weekend sweep.

On the men’s side, Badenhorst paired with Blake Anderson for doubles against No. 7 Texas’s No. 12-ranked duo, Sebastian Eriksson and Oliver Ojakaar, pushed the match to 5-6 before Texas claimed the doubles point. On the top court, a top-15 showdown took place between No. 13 Badenhorst and the Longhorns’ No. 10-ranked Sebastian Gorzny, claiming one set apiece before remaining unfinished. In a rematch tilt against No. 4 Wake Forest, the junior put the Bears on the board, defeating the Deacons’ No. 17-ranked DK Suresh in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
