The Big 12 Conference announced its Swimming & Diving yearly awards recipients on Wednesday. The recipients hailed from Arizona, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Houston, Kansas and Utah. The Sun Devils lead the way with four award winners.
The All-Big 12 First and Second Teams were also announced based on results from the 2026 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship presented by Allstate. The top four finishers in each individual event earned All-Big 12 First Team honors, while fifth through eighth-place finishers were named to the Second Team.
Ilya Kharun was named the Men’s Swimmer of the Year after leading Arizona State to the Big 12 men’s championship. The junior took home three individual event titles with three meet records and helped ASU collect four relay titles at the Conference Championship. At the NCAA Championships, the Las Vegas native captured a national title in the 200 butterfly and helped the Sun Devils to four relay national championships. In total, he earned seven All-America honors to finish with 52 points total, third among all swimmers at the national meet.
Joleigh Crye earned Women’s Swimmer of the Year following her senior season with the Bearcats. Crye totaled 71 individual points at the Big 12 Championship this season and earned All-American recognition at the NCAA Championship. She was part of Cincinnati’s 200 and 400 yard medley relays plus the 200 yard freestyle relay that all claimed bronze medals. She added the 100-yard breaststroke event title for the second consecutive year, as well as All-Big 12 second team recognition in the 100 butterfly.
Elias Petersen was named Men’s Diver of the Year for the second consecutive year. Petersen claimed the Big 12 title on the one-meter board and added a silver medal on three-meter dive at the Conference Championship. In addition, he also received All-Big 12 Second Team recognition in the platform event after advancing to the finals session. Petersen became Utah's career leader in points scored at the NCAA Championships, amassing 32 points between the 2025 and 2026 championships and became the first two-time All-American in the same season for the Utes since 2006.
Shiyun Lai collected Women’s Diver of the Year recognition for the second consecutive season, becoming the first Kansas student-athlete to accomplish the feat. The junior also competed at the NCAA Championship and took home First Team All-American honors for the second consecutive year, making her the first Jayhawk to do so in consecutive years in program history.
Luke Hernandez was selected as the Men’s Freshman of the Year after medaling in all three events at the Conference championship and qualifying for the NCAA Championship in all three. Hernandez captured the Big 12 title on three-meter and added silver medals on one-meter and platform. The freshman totaled 13 individual victories during the season and earned three Big 12 Men’s Diver of the Week awards.
Albane Cachot earned Women’s Freshman of the Year honors after helping Arizona State to a Big 12 Championship title.
