2026 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Season Awards Announced

Texas Tech’s Malachi Snow (men’s performer), BYU's Tayvon Kitchen (men’s outstanding freshman), Oklahoma State’s Billah Jepkirui (women’s performer) and BYU’s Jane Hedengren (women’s outstanding freshman) all claimed Big 12 indoor track and field season honors, while Wes Kittley was named as both men’s and women’s coach of the year for the Red Raiders.

Snow was named Men’s Performer of the Year after earning two gold medals and the men’s high point scorer title at the Big 12 Indoor Track Championship presented by Allstate. The junior won gold in both the 60-meter dash (6.46 seconds) and 60-meter hurdles (7.43 seconds). Snow ranks No. 2 nationally in both events and is the third Red Raider in four years to earn Men’s Performer of the Year honors.

BYU’s Kitchen was named Men’s Outstanding Freshman after leading the Big 12 with a season-best 7:36.23 in the 3,000 meters, the third fastest in the nation for 2026 and ninth all-time in the NCAA. Kitchen earned silver at the Big 12 Championship with a time of 7:52.91, scoring eight points.

Jepkirui was named the Women’s Performer of the Year after breaking a 17-year-old Big 12 mark in the women’s mile with a time of 4:20.34 and becoming the NCAA indoor leader. The junior later claimed gold in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:43.48, also claiming the Co-Women’s High Point Scorer. Jepkirui is the second Cowgirl to earn the accolade, and the third woman to claim women’s performer and women’s outstanding freshman in their career.

BYU’s Hedengren claimed the Women’s Outstanding Freshman award after besting a 13-year-old Big 12 record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:46.11. With her season-best time of 14:44.79 in the indoor 5,000 meters, Hedengren became the first collegiate woman to run a sub-14:50 in the event.

Kittley led the Red Raiders to their second-straight sweep as the men’s program collected its sixth overall and fourth-consecutive Big 12 title, while the women’s program won its second Big 12 title in program history. In his 27th year with the Red Raiders, Kittley his collected second sweep of the indoor awards, with his sixth overall and fourth-straight honor on the men’s side.
