UC’s Coats, TCU’s Davis and TTU’s Shouse Recognized with Big 12 Baseball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – Cincinnati’s Quinton Coats (player) was joined by TCU’s Lance Davis (pitcher and co-newcomer) and Texas Tech’s Connor Shouse (co-newcomer) as the Big 12 Baseball Players of the Week for the second week of league play.

Coats powered Cincinnati to a 4–1 week and its first Big 12 series victory of the season. The sophomore infielder from Olathe, Kansas hit .450 on the week with nine hits, nine runs, nine RBI, six walks, four home runs, two stolen bases and a 1.050 slugging percentage. He tied a single-game school record with three home runs in the second game of the series against Utah and now leads the nation by three with 18 home runs on the season. For the week, he was tied for the most home runs (4) and runs scored (9) in the Big 12, while his nine hits were the third-most in the league and his nine RBI were tied for fourth.

Davis earned the win in TCU’s 6–0 victory over UCF, as he tossed seven scoreless innings. The freshman pitcher from Jonesboro, Arkansas surrendered just two hits and two walks and struck out five batters to give TCU its first shutout of the season. He never faced more than four batters in an inning and faced the minimum in four frames. Only one runner reached third base against Davis, who limited the Knights to four total baserunners.

Shouse helped Texas Tech secure a road series win at Arizona. The sophomore infielder from Jasper, Georgia, hit .476 (10-for-21) with nine RBI, six runs, three home runs and a triple across four games. Shouse homered twice in a midweek contest at DBU before recording at least two hits in every game against the Wildcats. He delivered multiple clutch moments during the weekend, including the game-tying triple and game-winning run in the series opener, followed by a game-winning three-run home run on Sunday to clinch the series. Shouse also contributed on the mound, striking out two in a relief appearance to cap his weekend.
