Arizona State, BYU and TCU Garner Big 12 Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards

Arizona State’s Adam Chaney (men’s newcomer), Grace Lindberg (women’s swimmer), Kayden Hayes (women’s diver) and Albane Cachot (women’s newcomer) were joined by BYU’s Tyler Edlefsen (men’s swimmer) and TCU’s David Ekdahl (men’s diver), as the recipients of the Big 12 Swimming & Diving weekly awards for competition ending Jan. 4.
 
Edlefsen led BYU to a 167-133 win over Hawaii, highlighting his meet with two pool-record performances in the 200 breaststroke (1:57.05) and 200 IM (1:46.61) at Hawaii’s Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The Las Vegas native’s winning time in the 200 breaststroke was the ninth-fastest time in BYU history. Edlefsen added a time of 25.55 in the 50 breaststroke (fourth place) and a 53.98 breaststroke split in the 400 medley relay (fourth place).
 
Ekdahl swept the springboard events for TCU against Trinity (Texas), winning both the 1-meter (377.48) and 3-meter (381.98) with season-best scores and NCAA Zone qualifying marks. It is his second weekly Big 12 award this season and the 10th of his career.
 
Chaney added four medals to his season, including a gold medal in the 100 fly by nearly two seconds with an NCAA cut time of 45.86. He also set personal bests in the 200 free (1:35.41) and 100 IM (49.44) with bronze medals in each event. He added another gold by anchoring the Sun Devils’ winning 200 medley relay with a 20.28 50 fly leg. It is Chaney’s second award this season and first Big 12 Men’s Newcomer of the Week.
 
Lindberg opened 2026 with a personal best in the 400 IM (4:14.26), the ninth-best time in Arizona State history, to take home the gold medal against Grand Canyon. She finished runner-up in the 100 free (49.69) and contributed a 49.60 split in the 400 free relay (3:26.60, fourth place).
 
Hayes finished atop the standings in both diving events for Arizona State against the Lopes, winning the 1-meter (306.30) and 3-meter (318.53) with season-best scores and NCAA Zone qualifying marks. The junior helped ASU defeat Grand Canyon 225-75 in its first meet of 2026. It is her second Big 12 weekly award this season.
 
Cachot won all three freestyle events in her Sun Devil debut, including the 50 freestyle (22.43), 100 freestyle (49.11) and 200 freestyle (1:46.38). Her time in the 50 free was the seventh-fastest in program history. The freshman from Toulouse, France also anchored the winning 400 free relay with a 48.75 split (3:20.07). Cachot is the third Sun Devil to be named Big 12 Women’s Newcomer of the Week this season.
