ISU’s Ryan, K-State’s Sundell Collect Big 12 WBB Weekly Honors

Iowa State’s Emily Ryan was named Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and K-State’s Serena Sundell was selected as the Conference’s Freshman of the Week for Games ending January 9, as chosen by a five-person media panel.
 
Ryan averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds, shooting 61.9 percent from the field to help the Cyclones to a 2-0 week and remain tied with K-State atop the Big 12 standings. She had a career-high 22 points against Oklahoma Jan. 5, adding in eight assists as she played all but 36 seconds in Iowa State’s 81-71 win. She had 16 points and three assists in ISU’s 78-47 win over TCU Jan. 8. It is Ryan’s first Big 12 Player of the Week honor and her second weekly recognition from the league, earning a Freshman of the Week honor in 2020-21.
 
Sundell averaged 13.0 points, 8.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds in two K-State wins, keeping the Wildcats in a first-place tie with Iowa State. Sundell had a game-high 21 points to go along with nine assists and five rebounds in a 71-61 win over West Virginia Jan. 8. She had seven assists and seven rebounds to go along with five points in Kansas State’s 60-49 win over Oklahoma State Jan. 5. It is Sundell’s third Freshman of the Week honor.
